Is there a minimum computer specification required?

Windows 10 64bit, and Train Simulator 2021 64bit, plus a free USB port.

Is there any setup or configuration required?

The PBC has been designed to work straight out of the box after installing the included software. No complex setup or configuration for each train is required. This has been done for you. The only setting you might have to
change, is the ‘Throttle mode’ if not automatically detected by the software.

Does it work with all add-ons such as Armstrong Powerhouse and
Just Trains?

Generally yes. The software has been specifically programmed and tested to work with most UK add-ons and also many worldwide trains. Every week, new add-ons are tested and added to the supported list which can be found here: CompatibilityMatrix

Does it work with Train Sim World or Train Sim World 2?

Partially, and no official support. The PBC is programmed to use keyboard commands to operate throttle and brake in TSW/TSW2. This is not ideal as the controller can get out of sync with TSW/TSW2 as there is no programming interface feedback unlike TS2020.
Dovetail Games have said they will support external controllers in a future release of TSW2. When that is ready, the controller should be fully compatible. If you would like to use the PBC with TSW2, please get in touch with Dovetail games requesting they add external controller support.

How about external controller support in TSW2?

Dovetail Games announced they will provide support for external controllers in a future release of TSW2. They are currently working on a programming interface to enable 2-way controller communication similar to TS2020. When this is released we will be working on support as soon as possible. Please get in touch with Dovetail games requesting they add external controller support, as the more requests they receive, they higher the priority it will become for them.

Does it work on consoles?

Unfortunately not, as the provided software is required for interfacing.

What does the included software do?

The software included with the PBC  hardware provides the interfacing between the hardware and the Train simulator 2020 software. This software has been programmed and developed for an easy to use experience, meaning the unit should work straight out of the box with all your favourite add-ons, without the need for any complicated setup or configuration. The software also provides other features such as connection status, testing, and auto updates and downloads for new versions.

What does each control and switch do?

· Throttle/Brake handle – The PBC had a Throttle/Brake handle which is typically used as 4 brake notches and upto 7 throttle notches.

· Reverser– The reverser switch has 4 positions, OFF, FORWARD, NEUTRAL, REVERSE. This works with most trains although many DTG trains do not support the OFF function.

· Master Key – The master key works with the majority of trains including AP and JT add-ons, although some DTG trains do not support it. See the compatibility for full support information.

· Optional Horn/PBL brake.
This joystick functions as a switchable two tone horn, or as a PBL brake featured in the Class 66/67/68/92 and some other locos.

What options are available to choose when ordering?

The PBC comes in two flavours, with or without Horn/PBL lever. There are also 3 different handle options available.

Can you swap handles or buy different ones?

Yes there are 3 different handles available to purchase, and you are able to swap them easily yourself whenever you need. You can purchase the handles with the controllers, or extra ones at a later date.

Does the PBC work in trains/locos with separate throttle
and brake controls?

Yes. In the case of trains or locos with separate throttles, such as a sprinter or a Class 37, the handle will control the throttle only and fit to the relevant notches on the controller.

Does the throttle/brake controller have physical notches?

Yes, it is notched and damped to emulate real world controls. 4 brake notches and 7 power notches. If the train has 4 power notches, like many modern units, then you would ignore the last 3 notches of power.

Does it need an internet connection?

Not normally no. An internet connection is required if you want to use the automatic updates of the software and firmware.

What is firmware?

Firmware is the software, or programming code, inside the PBC itself. This may be updated occasionally to provide new features or improvements.

How long is the warranty?

The PBC comes with a 1 year return-to-base warranty. The unit uses hand picked high quality components, several being aerospace grade.

Where is the unit made?

All TS Controllers hardware products are proudly hand crafted in the UK in small batches. This ensures quality and reliability. Many components where possible are made in the UK.

Where do I obtain the software and how to I install?

The instructions are included with the package, otherwise the software can be downloaded here.
