The Class 334 ‘Juniper’ units were built in 1999-2002 by Alstom at Washwood Heath.

A total of 40 units were built for use on Glasgow suburban services and replaced the aging Class 303 “Blue Train” units which had been in service since 1960.

Originally the units operated the Ayrshire Coast, Inverclyde, Argyle and North Clyde services. Today, the units operate on the North Clyde Line between Helensburgh Central, Milngavie and Edinburgh Waverley via Bathgate, as well as occasional Argyle Line services.

The Class 334 units are based at Glasgow Shields Road TMD.
