BR Cross Country Glasgow Queen St to Edinburgh 1989

BR Cross Country Glasgow Queen St to Edinburgh 1989

BACKGROUND TO THIS SCENARIO:

It is 1989 and British Rail are running Cross Country 7 car Valenta HST services from Glasgow Queen Street which stop at Falkirk High and then through into Edinburgh and beyond. You will be in charge of 43003 (now ironically part of the ScotRail fleet) & 43019 (sadly, written off in the fatal Ufton Nervet accident in November 2004).

The Class 47 was the workhorse of the route at the time with their ‘DBSO’ push-pull services which were also introduced on Aberdeen services. These locos would not last much longer and were replaced by Class 158s and quickly followed by the Class 170.

Class 37s at the time were regular Queen St visitors with services to and from the Highlands for example. Due to steam heated boilers that powered the electrics, the Class 27 was used to power the carriages and give the service extra grunt. See if you can spot it at Eastfield TMD.

Finally, I must mention the Class 101 which was a stalwart and served the UK well. The STP (Strathclyde Red) and Trans-Clyde (BR Grey & Blue) are represented.
