PDL Portsmouth Direct Line (Waterloo-Portsm’) – Optimization Patch
28th September 2020This is an optimization patch for the PDL (Portsmouth Direct Line) Waterloo to Portsmouth route in Train Simulator.
=========================
WHAT THIS PATCH AIMS TO DO
=========================
– Eliminate OOMs, especially when starting at Waterloo
– Improve general frame rates by 30-70%
=========================
WHAT THIS PATCH CANNOT DO
=========================
– The patch cannot eliminate tile loading spikes in PDL, where FPS drop for 1-2 secs.
– Eliminate OOMs and improve FPS if your settings are simply too high for the route.
On investigating the PDL route I found that it is certainly one of the most dense and object-filled routes in TS. There are AI branch lines (eg. to Norbiton) that the user will probably never see, that are packed with resource-demanding assets. This leads to the new tile loading spike (drop in FLS) being much higher in PDL that it is in almost any other route. I have removed some of these assets, along with the main bulk of the project which was to remove very high demand 3D “near” trees, where they have been excessively or inappropriately used. A tweak to the lighting at Waterloo has also drasticallly improved performance and stability at that station.
Please read the README-INSTALL, and please ensure you BACK UP your current PDL folder, before extracting my patch files into it.
Enjoy!
I installed this and it has not improved anything for me I’m afraid
David,
This patch is superb, I have fallen back in love with the route and can see the vast difference in Frame Rates not just Waterloo but the SW London area.
Class 444 is actually running to the speed it should do (with improved frame rates)
Highly recommended patch 🙂
Yes, I can confirm this. The route runs a lot better and more stable.👌
That’s fantastic to hear! The feedback is much appreciated.
It is best not to expect too much from this patch. It will certainly help with OOMs and frame rates, but this project was very frustrating. I tried so many strategies with the route but it still suffers from some awful stutters on my PC.
I agree the optimisation has helped in some areas of the route but it still gets very laggy at times which is a shame as it is such a nice looking route. the just trains Chiltern Mainline is my worst route for performance on Train Simulator it is shockingly bad at times with scenarios that are unplayable or i have to stop halfway through. An optimisation for that route would be very welcoming.
