1Y48 17:37 Fort William To Helensburgh Upper
16th April 2019This scenario will take approximately 190 minutes (3hr 10m) to complete.
On a clear summers evening sometime in the second half of the 80’s you are taking control of 1Y48, a Class 37 hauled passenger run forming the 16:05 Mallaig to Fort William service.
In this run you will be driving the train from Fort William as far as Helensburgh Upper calling at all stations along the way.
It’s expected that you will be running around 5 minutes late by the time you reach Helensburgh Upper, allocations published revised timetables based on DMU’s running the service before they had even tested them, so there is no way a loco hauled service can meet the times set on the timetable!
Your goal will be to carry out the journey as efficiently as possible (without speeding!) so you are not left having to make up too much time on the next leg of the journey.
With constantly changing speed limits and gradients you will need to stay alert throughout this journey.
This run has been based on accurate train times from the Scotrail timetable (9 Dec 2018 – 18 May 2019) and verified against Realtime Trains, realistically you will most likely be around 5 minutes late when you reach Helensburgh Upper as this current timetable used is based on a DMU running on it.

Hi, I am trying to play this scenario but I am getting the ‘Scenario failed to load’ error message for “consist Builder – Carnt load rail vehicle – (WHS) ZCA BASS open red loaded” x 6. I have all the required add-ons listed above so I am not sure why it is not working. Is anyone able to help? Thanks
Hi James, been a while since I made this scenario, though based on the information you have given the error is resulting from one of the wagons from the West Highland Line South route itself, unsure why it’s not recognising as being installed as it’s a core part of the route, you should be able to bypass the error and play the scenario by pressing F2 or ESC, if not try reinstalling the route, sometimes in Train Sim things have a tendency of inexplicably uninstalling themselves!
Great run however I feel like the doors get held open too long at Ardlui
Thanks for the feedback Mathieu, I used Ardlui as a point to pull the run back in line with the current timetable which I based the scenario on, I based the timing on my driving on my final test run and it’s programmed for 1 minute stop there, though obviously that will be longer if you arrive earlier. In reality the scheduled stop at Ardlui is 19:47:30 – 19:52:30 due to it being a scheduled passing point and the time taken for the RETB signalling to clear the block before allowing the next train to pass. Another point of note, based on the timetable used there should be a 10 minute stop at Crianlarich where the services from Fort William and Oban would merge, though due to this being a loco hauled run I absorbed most of that time into the run where the time was lost due to the slower acceleration of the 37 compared to a 156. Obviously everyone drives the trains differently so times will change, though Ardlui was a critical point from the scenario perspective to allow the AI train to enter the platform whilst you are waiting there.
