Until December 2012, Virgin trains ran Class 390 ‘Drag’ from London to Holyhead
with a Class 57/3 attached at Crewe to haul it on the non-electrified section to
Holyhead. The purpose of this was to release Voyagers to strengthen other busy
services. You take over from Crewe after the locomotive has been attached and
drive it to North Wales to the end of the line at Holyhead. You call at Chester, Rhyl,
Colwyn Bay, Llandudno Jn, Bangor and Holyhead a couple of hours later.
