Caledonian Sleeper ex-FSR Mk3 Sleeper Car

The Mk3 sleeper cars were built in 1981 to 1984 by BREL Derby Litchurch Lane Works and a total of 208 vehicles were constructed. There are two types of Mk3 sleeper cars: Sleeper Either class (SLE), which has 13 compartments (13 to 26 beds), and Sleeper Either class with Pantry (SLEP), which has 12 compartments (12 to 24 beds), plus a compartment used for an attendant.

This set includes two Mk3 sleeper cars (SLE and SLEP) in former First ScotRail Caledonian Sleeper livery, as set in the 2015 to 2019 period, when Caledonian Sleeper was operated by Serco. The majority of Caledonian Sleeper rolling stock remained in First ScotRail livery, with First and ScotRail logos removed, however they retained their ‘Caledonian Sleeper’ branding.

Only a few vehicles have been repainted in the new Caledonian Sleeper livery, as Mk2 and Mk3 vehicles were due for replacement. They were eventually replaced by new Mk5 coaching stock in April 2019.
