Suburban Glasgow – AP Track Ballast Texture Patch (for Suburban Glasgow V6 & WCML North & Scotland)
24th April 2019This patch simply retextures the bright orange/red ground texture found on this fantastic route (and others) to seemlessly merge with the AP Track EP track and trackbed. Before and after images are included in the download, as is the original file in case you wish to revert.
REQUIREMENTS
– AP Track EP (https://www.armstrongpowerhouse.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=36_88&product_id=192)
– Suburban Glasgow & all of its dependencies (http://www.suburban-glasgow.org.uk/)
does installing this patch also remove the black stripe lines on the junctions?
Hi, it should do
Thanks for the feedback. I would suggest, assuming you know how, that you raise the track using RWTools which will get rid of the track bleed.

thanks for your help
Thanks for doing this – although I haven’t run over the whole of the route yet, the patch seems to work well. I have noticed some “orange” areas at Cathcart and Dumbarton Central, but very little elsewhere so far – initially I had a problem with piles of ballast covering the track at Coatbridge Sunnyside platforms, but used your patch to return to the default, reinstalled and it’s been fine since then.
The only problem with the APTEP in general is that it works well on the routes AP have optimised it for, but not necessarily for 3rd party routes using the track from a route where APTEP has been installed – 2 examples – Suburban Glasgow when leaving Glasgow Central, between the bridge and the tunnels + a couple of other spots and XC Route (most of which uses South Wales Coastal track) south of Chepstow on the banks of the Severn – both have ground texture bleeding on to the track and it looks a bit/very weird. It’s nobody’s fault – if the route’s not set up to use APTEP, or there’s no specific patch to optimise it, then it’s likely that there will be compatability issues somewhere. I backed up my whole Railworks folder before I installed APTEP so that I could replace individual DLC route assets with their default files if other routes were adversely affected, or if I just didn’t like the effect – there’s probably an easier way of doing this, but I’m probably better suited to building/fixing metal models than delving deep into file management!
Thanks again, the AP track looks so much better than the default from WCMLN and this patch improves on it.
ps Glad you’re enjoying it. If you don’t know how to raise the track let me know & i’ll post a quick ‘how to’. I’ve not seen any track bleed on the route since doing it.
Thanks for the reply, I know that it can be done, but have no idea how to do it – I have RW Tools, although as yet I’ve done absolutely nothing with it apart from opening it up and shaking my head a bit. A blow by blow idiot’s guide to raising the track would be needed in my case I’m afraid – 68 year old model railway enthusiast who plays indoor bowls – you get the idea! To be fair, I’ve owned/used computers of one sort or another since the early 1980s, so I’m not totally illiterate – maybe better to just assume that I am though.
Absolutely no worries. It’s. Rey straight forward…
1) Open RWTools and click ‘Route Building Tools’ on the top menu(s)
2) Select ‘Check Routes or Scenarios’
3) When that loads scroll down and find Suburban Glasgow
4) Select it, then select ‘Raise or Lower Track’ which is almost in the centre of the screen
5) Click OK
6) How much you raise it is entirely upto you. I always used to do 0.0600 but I think that might be overkill. I’d suggest entering a figure of 0.0300 then select ok.
7) It will then ask you if you ‘wish to adjust track-side objects such as Switch Stands’. The general advice on this one is to click ‘no’.
8) Shortly you will see a green progress bar at the bottom reach 100% so you can click exit, exit RWTools, launch TrainSim and it’s done!
Thanks for the help and the clear instructions. I tried 0.0300, but needed to go to 0.0500 in 0.0100 increments to tidy up the Glasgow Central approaches, so 0.0600 looks reasonable – I’ve only done a short QD test so far and things look fine now.
Sorry for another query – RWTools only lists 57 routes and I have 70 – I wanted to try raising the track on York – Peterborough as there is some terrain bleed on that with APTEP installed, but it’s not listed, any Idea what’s happening and if so, is there a fix?
P.S I unpacked the ap file as suggested in various forums, but the route still isn’t found by RWTools.
Have you got the patch from this site for that route?
It’s listed as York – Peterborough modern (complete) on my PC. You’ve definitely unpacked the MainContent AP file in content/routes/91408b68-01d8-42a0-a17a7f791e2107b2?
I have the patch, but had unpacked the Assets ap file rather than the Route file (learn something new every day) – RWTools has found it now. Thanks for your help and patience.
Not at all, glad we got there in the end. RWTools needs a RouteProperties.xml to read for the route to show
up. ps York Peterborough definitely requires 0.0600!
