2B19 07:25 London Euston to Northampton (1989)
8th October 2024It’s 1989 and a changing of the guard is underway for Network SouthEast commuter services out of London Euston, with the introduction of the new Class 321s spelling the end of the short stint of the 317s on the WCML.
An added element of variety was provided by the Northampton ‘Cobbler’ sets, formed of 10-12 Mk1 coaches hauled by 86s, acting as capacity boosters. These were subsequently withdrawn in 1990.
During the transition period, take 317 329 on a semi-fast working to Northampton against the morning peak flow.

Fantastic scenario, thanks for your work!
Nice little run; the up Cobbler (86401+Mk1s) passes you at Leighton Buzzard – so it does make an appearance 🙂
Love the sound of this – must confess I was hoping it would be a Northampton Cobbler run in that NSE Class 86, that would be a good one to drive, although a Class 317 service is quite tempting too !!
A Northampton Cobbler scenario is in the pipeline 🙂
Now that is magnificent news !! Day one download on that for sure – it might mean it’s a load of “old cobblers” as they say – but in this context, can’t wait – thanking you indeed.
