This scenario pack is the first in a planned series representing Virgin Trains operations in the late 1990s. The focus in this volume is on Southern England and South Wales and features 13 scenarios across 8 routes. Future packs will cover other parts of the country.

All scenarios are based on the relevant Working Timetable. See the author’s notes below for an explanation of any limitations or compromises made.

TROUBLESHOOTING

If you encounter a crash when loading scenarios on the Bristol to Penzance 1995-2005 route, use the pre-load scenario included with the route. Load the pre-load, wait a short time to allow scenery to load, then quit to the menu, load and run your scenario of choice. Some of the scenarios are complex and demanding and a minimum of 16Gb RAM is recommended.

INSTALLATION

Copy the included “Assets” and “Content” folders into your “Railworks” folder. This can usually be found in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common. If you are having trouble locating the folder, go to your Steam library, right click on “Train Simulator” and choose “Properties” from the menu. In the pop-up window that opens, click the “Local Files” tab near the top and then click on the button marked “Browse Local Files”. This will open your “Railworks” folder.
The “Assets” folder includes a custom portal that can be placed in scenarios. It will not over-write any of your core files. This is an extremely simple and well-known modification (link to a Steam forum thread that contains a good explanation from DP Simulation). I claim no credit for this and have simply provided my own version for convenience.

REQUIREMENTS

Links to payware and freeware requirements for the pack are contained in the included ReadMe. Some of these items have their own requirements and you should carefully check the download page to ensure that you have all of them. The exception to that is the download of the Virtual District Line which is required for AI tube stock. You do not need to install all of the requirements for this route.

Scenarios will run without the AP Sky and Weather pack but you will not experience the intended weather conditions. Scenarios may run without the AP Signal Enhancement pack, but you might experience unintended signal behaviour.
For the best experience I highly recommend the AP Sky Accurate Time of Day mod.
