BACKGROUND INFO

Well, that time has come hasn’t it. The last East Coast Mainline HST service has arrived introduced as a stopgap some 40 years ago the Class 43 HST has been plying its trade up and down the East Coast of Britain for 40 years. From Penzance to Inverness there is a high chance you will have encountered one of these stalwarts of the British Isles. Although the HST lives on with Scotrail, GWR and CrossCountry the feeling of blasting up the East Coast Mainline will be missed.

In a spell from British Rail to LNER the service these trains have provided the nation has been second to none from Kings Cross to Kirkcaldy, Durham to Dundee, and from Newark to Newcastle it is safe to say they deserve their retirement!

SCENARIO

You will be driving the final ever service from Aberdeen to London Kings Cross, you will take the leg of the journey from Dundee to Edinburgh Waverley. The train has arrived into Dundee slightly late try your best to make up time but it is going to be tricky! You will be calling at Leuchars, Kirkcaldy, Inverkeithing, Haymarket and Edinburgh Waverley. Traffic is light as it is a Sunday timetable so there’s not a lot of AI units about, but do
remember there’s a lot of enthusiasts about today seen as this is such a special journey so don’t be horn shy as you pass through the stations!

You will also have the privilege of being the last ever driver to take a LNER HST across both the Tay and Forth bridges so hope you enjoy!
