Suburban Glasgow: North Clyde Lines to Edinburgh (Upgraded)
8th March 2026This route (Suburban Glasgow: North Clyde Lines to Edinburgh) brings you an upgraded version of the North Clyde Lines as available on Steam, and an upgraded version of the original Bathgate Extension previously made by AGD… oh wait that’s me!
About the Route:
This route is the updated version of the previously released AGD Suburban Glasgow Bathgate Extension which contains a plethora of improvements over the entire route. Spanning from Helensburgh to Edinburgh, an end to end run covers nearly 68 miles of track. The improvements to this route include various scenery and housing updates, vegetation revamps, ground texture updates, station clutter updates, signalling fixes and many more changes.
The route includes: the namesake route between Helensburgh Central and Edinburgh, the line up to Helensburgh Upper, The Balloch Branch, the Milngavie branch and the Springburn branch. The route integrates the NCL Updated route and is intended as a replacement for it. A guide for scenario creators will be provided later on in the manual for making old scenarios for the NCL Updated route compatible with this version as it uses the same route folder. For reference, the route is set in 2024, but is accommodating to scenarios both before and after this.
If you’ve previously had the Bathgate Extension installed, you may be curious to know what has changed. Below is a list:
- Lineside vegetation updates across the whole route
- Lineside housing upgrades across the North Clyde section and parts of the Bathgate Extension
- Texture Upgrades to the whole route
- New custom buildings, walls and bridges added across the route
- Extra detailing and scenery updates in areas I felt it was lacking
- Scenery updates to the Bathgate Extension section of the route
- Station clutter updates, these are fairly minor but there are some noticeable differences
- Signal updates (+ the fixing of my problem child signal at Newbridge Junction)
- AI Horns Implementation
- Sodium Vapour Lighting added at relevant stations
- And much much more
The project started well over a year ago as a learning project for myself, and as I learned a lot in my time working on payware projects since, I decided this release could do with a bit of TLC, hence why it’s being re-released as this. Despite this, the route is still built to be viewed from the cab, and as such you may experience unintended visual effects if you view too far from the lineside.
There is further scope for extending parts of it in the future, but I will not be revealing any details of this until anything is ready.
The route has a number of requirements, and though I intend to reduce this list in the future, it is imperative that you have all of these routes and asset packs installed. Support will not be provided to anyone who doesn’t have all the requirements.
REQUIREMENTS:
This has been split into a “Most Important” and an “All Other Section”. For clarity sake, the Most Important are the requirements with which any further work will be done and restricted to, All Other refers only to the North Clyde to Edinburgh Section. This was simply down to accidental addition of requirements during the process of development
Most Important:
- Suburban Glasgow Northwest + Airdrie Extension (Base Route)
- DTG Huddersfield Line
- Thomson Interactive Glasgow to Dunblane and Alloa
- DTG Fife Circle
- ATS OHLE Pack
- ATS Common Library
- Thomson Interactive Trent Valley
- WCML North
- Just Trains Hope Valley Line or/and any UK Based Just Trains Addon Released Afterwards (This ensures you have the latest Common Library required for Lamp Posts and Clutter Items) MUST COME FROM THE JT WEBSITE
- DTG WCML South
All Other
- DTG Southampton to Bournemouth
- DTG Portsmouth Direct
- DTG ECML South
- 4AS Signage Pack
- AP Common Library
- DTG South Wales Coastal Unbranded
- DTG Liverpool to Manchester
- Thomson Interactive Edinburgh to Glasgow
TEMPORARY REQUIREMENT:
- MaxTracks Leeds North Western
This is a temporary requirement of the route as we still await some custom assets from Max. As the styles are similar to what’s being made, some standins have been used for certain council housing and flat buildings. Updates will be posted on the AGDevelopment Facebook Page on when this requirement gets removed.
SCENARIO REQUIREMENTS:
A number of scenarios have also been included, both newly made and adjusted scenarios from my old North Clyde Lines Scenario packs. Note: Out of the box scenarios on the site for the old North Clyde Lines updated route will need adjusted in order to work on this version of the route, and a guide for this has been included in the route manual.
The requirements of the included scenarios are listed below:
- AP 318 EMU Pack
- AP 321 EMU Pack
- AP 156 DMU Pack
- AP MTU Pack
- AP 800 EP
- AP 170 EP
- AP 158 Perkins EP
- AP 66 EP V2
- AP SWEP V2
- AP Signal EP
- DTG WCML South
- ATS Class 385 Upgrade + Dependencies
- CAH Scotrail Stock Pack V3.5
ROUTE INSTALLATION:
- Extract the Assets and Contents folder and move them to your Railworks directory OVERWRITE ALL WHEN ASKED
- Go to your assets folder and run NSELampposts.bat
The route is named “[AGD Suburban Glasgow] North Clyde Lines to Edinburgh” in game.
If you are experiencing signal problems, please try re-installing the Signal EP
If you do not have lamp posts, and you have followed the above instructions, please re-install your latest JT Product from the Just Trains Website (The Steam version is an older version and will not work). THIS WILL NOT FUNCTION WITH JT PRODUCTS FROM STEAM
CREDITS:
Agdron: Lead Developer, Project Manager, creator of the original Bathgate extension and responsible for the majority of the scenery upgrades across the route.
Sean Gallagher: Literally a wizard, merged Edinburgh onto the route and has laid and re-laid track in various places, most notably between Livingston North and Newbridge Junction
Chris Horsfield: Signal man, did the station clutter on the North Clyde Lines (which I then went in and changed, probably much to his dismay) and also had an exploded computer.
MaxTracks: gifting the footbridge kit to the route, and being willing to pay me in housing and wall assets. Without him the route would not have been able to capture the feel I had been aiming to capture.
Iain Mackay (Suburban Glasgow): being supportive of the Bathgate Extension project and being the original routebuilder of the Suburban Glasgow project. I hope he enjoys the route in its current state should he choose to one day drive down it.
Also a special thanks to Alan Thomson of ATS for support, advice, and patience while I messed about and broke things and putting up with the really random stuff I say sometimes.
Another thanks should go out to all who have tested the route for me!
Thank you to everyone else who has supported me on this project, and hopefully you can all enjoy the end product.

UPDATE LOG:
21/03/2026: Log for every fix done before this date: Missing DOO monitors replaced with temporary blue ones. Scenery bits fixed. Missing custom joint blueprints added to assets folder.

Agdron,
10/10 – Can’t fault any of it & runs like a dream! I did Chris’ Helensburgh to Waverley run earlier… Cracking!!! Thank you 🙂 Ben
Thank you for the update sir!
All platform posts, stop markers and monitors working now
The thing we all seem to be missing is a DOO monitor bank on which the car stop markers are mounted – when the milk bottle is clicked it is referencing – JustTrains\CommonLibrary\Scenery\Clutter\jt_clutter_cctv_screens_grey.xml
I have redownloaded and reinstalled 2 JT routes so I’m 99.9999% sure I’ve got the most up-to-date JT Common Library and only have jt_clutter_cctv_screens.xml at that location (this bank of DOO monitors is blue)
Are we absoultely sure this is something that should be something in the JT Common Library not something that has been reskinned specifically for this route and therefore should have been packaged with it?
Thank you for checking the milkbottle. I’m relatively certain its not a reskin, rather a name change in the library itself as these DOO monitors have now gone missing on my version having deleted and re-installed the common library to check that I’m not going insane. A fix is being worked on and I will post about it on the AGDevelopment Facebook page once it is done.
Thank you for checking though, this is far more useful than the standard response we usually get which makes no sense, since the majority of testers have not had any issues whatsoever which meant it was a surprise to me when these DOO monitors were found to be missing
Fantastic Route ! Thanks a lot. Same Problem by me with these DOO monitors.
Re-Install, a stand in has been put in for the DOO Monitors
Thanks a lot : Works good now (the DOO Monitors is now blue).
Yeah, they will be for a while, the others came from a source which was not a req of the route so I replaced them with what was readily available within the current reqs that could be swapped in seamlessly
I have the stop markers floating and tilted too! I’ve tried everything, reinstalling the route, JT routes and yes , I have run the lamppost.bat!
Seems to be an issue with most users of the route
There must be a fix!!
It’s spoiling an otherwise fantastic route!
Again, like I’ve said to other commenters, if you do not have the latest common library, you’re not eligable for support. These lamp posts and clutter items are known to exist in the latest MML, SWEXR or Wessex Mainline. This has been tested AND confirmed
Truly brilliant. Well done Agdron. Works like clockwork for me.
Me too, the route looks fantastic, much improved, but at every station the car stop markers are floating, angled in the air, other than that, great.
If you do not have lamp posts at stations, it means the following:
You either don’t have all the requirements (read the list, lampposts come from the JT Common Library **from modern products on the JT site**)
OR
You have the requirements but haven’t run NSELampposts.bat
If you do run the batch file and the lamp posts still aren’t there, then I cannot provide support as it is an indicator that you do not have the specified requirements
I have the just trains midline mainline which comes with the JT Common Library
On Steam or on the JT Site? It will not work with the version from Steam
i got it from the just trains website
I can’t really help you any more than that unless you have SWEXR or Wessex since those are the two which I know have them. The alternative is you swap them in TS Tools on your version
amazing, but also they seam to be at every station they are floating signs or other floating things I do have all the requirements
