I really enjoyed playing this scenario keep up the good work
Excellent scenario, Thank you.
May be of interest (or maybe not!), but in the mid-late ’80s I commuted from Newark to Lincoln, and for a time the 07.25-ish departure from Newark Castle (originating in Derby?) normally had a prototype 150 set (available from Major Wales) or occasionally the 151s, which were interesting devices, but a failure could bring anything from a pair of 20s to a “Royal” 47 on 4 or 5 Mk1s.
Unfortunately I can’t comment on the scenario as I don’t have the Nottingham-Lincoln extension yet.
Hey there, thanks for the comment.
After looking through my timetable, it seems as though this service might have moved ahead around 20 mins, departing Newark Castle at 07.46, and arriving into Lincoln at 08.14½, which then turns into the service depicted into the scenario. As this scenario was based on a real working on the 2nd of August, 1990 ( https://flic.kr/p/NiZ2E2 ), I assume that if this service was booked for a 150/0 or a 151, they were instead taken elsewhere/broken down, where the 37 was then put into service instead. Thanks for the information though. 😀
Timing of services between Newark and Lincoln varied quite a lot over the years that I used them (late ’85 to early ’99), some years it was better for me to catch a Lincoln service from Northgate, but return to Castle or vice versa as both stations were a 2 mile walk from home. There was a slightly bonkers period where at least some services between Lincoln and Nottingham called at both Newark stations – the double reversal adding considerably to the journey times beyond Newark in either direction, but it might make for an interesting scenario. I never had the nerve to try it, but I assume it was possible at that time to buy a ticket for travel just from one Newark station to the other – totally pointless as it would have been quicker to walk.
