Before being introduced into revenue service, Grand Central carried out a number of test runs on the East Coast Mainline with their two ex-Avanti Super Voyagers in the summer of 2023. Today, these trains operate on their West Riding route between London Kings Cross and Bradford Interchange, with six services per day. In this scenario, you form 5Z71, where you will be taking 221143 on part of a northbound test drive from Peterborough to Crofton Depot near Wakefield. You will be operating as far as Doncaster, where your colleague will take over for the remainder. Don’t expect it to be a straightforward journey though, as a stranded Edinburgh service has suddenly caused some knock-on effects in the Peterborough area.
