Marsdonshire Railways Class 802 ‘AT300 Express’
27th February 2026The Class 802 AT300 Express trains were introduced in 2018 to 2020 for the Great Western Railway, Hull Trains and TransPennine Express. They were constructed at Hitachi Rail at Pistoia, Italy, with some units built at Kudamatsu, Japan.
The trains are broadly the same as Class 800 bi-mode trains, except they have a higher operating power of 940 hp (700 kW) per engine and the addition of larger fuel tanks.
The units can operate on 25kV AC overhead lines or MTU 12V 1600 R80L diesel engines on non-electrified areas, and they have a maximum speed of 125 mph (200 km/h).
