This is a scenario for the WCML over Shap route.

In the early 2000s, Virgin Trains celebrated the rich history of the North East and South West network by repainting five of their British Rail Class 47 locomotives into striking heritage liveries, each representing colours that had previously worked over the route.

Today you take charge of 47847, just ten days fresh from repaint and still running without her nameplates fitted, adding to the sense of occasion as she turns heads along the line. Although the plan was for a booked locomotive swap to an AC electric at Preston, operational changes mean your locomotive is retained for the full journey, leaving you to deliver the service in full.

With it being a Saturday afternoon and enthusiasts lining the route to witness this rare working, a strong, confident performance is expected throughout: keep time, make the most of the power available, and put on a show worthy of the crowds.

Date: 24th November 2001

This scenario was heavily inspired by the programme “Class 47 Fadeaway”, particularly a clip featuring 47847 departing Carlisle with service 1S54.
