This is a scenario for the WCML Over Shap route.

Due to ongoing reliability issues with TransPennine Express’ Class 397 fleet, every morning two Class 802 units are diagrammed to operate a full circuit of Edinburgh and Manchester services throughout the day to maintain capacity and performance.

On this occasion, you are a Glasgow-based driver booked to work the Edinburgh to Manchester service as far as Preston, taking charge of the train at Carlisle as part of the wider diagram. Conditions are beginning to turn fairly rainy, adding a touch of autumnal challenge to the run as you work the service south from Carlisle, before being relieved by one of your Preston-based colleagues on arrival at Preston.
