[CH] 1F09 08:00 London St Pancras – Derby
6th September 2026This is a scenario for AP’s Midland Mainline Enhancement and the Corby extension.
With industrial action taking place yesterday, many of Midland Mainline’s 222s and HSTs have been displaced, making for a rather unusual morning on the MML. You were expecting to be taking a Meridian north from the capital this morning, but as a result of yesterday’s shortcomings, you have instead been gifted the pleasure of an HST set. The cherry on top is that both of your powercars are Valenta-powered, quite a rarity by this stage given that most of Midland Mainline’s HST fleet had already been converted to VP185 engines.
There’s also a sense of change in the air, with the modernised St Pancras having only been open for around three months and its new international connection not yet operational; Eurostar services would begin from the station in just over a week’s time.
To add to the period atmosphere, Midland Mainline’s days are numbered, with East Midlands Trains due to take over the Midland Main Line franchise in around two weeks’ time, bringing the era of Midland Mainline to an end.
