BR Provincial Class 151 (Class 166 Reskin)
24th April 2025British Rail Class 151 Prototype Sprinter units were built by Metro-Cammell in 1985. Only two 3-car units were built, and were numbered 151001 and 151002.
The vehicles were equipped with Cummins NT855-R5 285hp (213kW) diesel engines, with hot-shift Twin Disc transmissions and Gmeinder final drives. The maximum speed for the Class 151 units was 75mph (120km/h).
This class has a number of unusual features, including hydraulically driven alternators and cooling fans, and the bogies were non-standard. Due to being non-standard units, they were withdrawn from traffic in March 1989.
There were plans to refurbish the units for spot hire to train operating companies, but this did not come into fruition.
The Class 151 units were scrapped in 2004.
