8C25 13.15 Merehead Quarry – Minehead (1998)
30th December 2022Hi, and thank you for downloading this 2 hour scenario for the Just Trains South Western Expressways – Reading route.
To install, simply copy the enclosed ‘Content’ folder to your Railworks folder. This is a ‘Standard’ scenario and is named “[MJC] 8C25 1315 Merehead Quarry – Minehead”
I have included an alternative version of the scenario for those who were unable to obtain the Virgin First Generation Pack class 47, which uses the locos from the Huddersfield route as a stand-in. If you require this version, copy the ‘Content’ folder contained within the ‘Huddersfield 47 Alternative’ folder.
Summary
During 1997 and 1998 work was underway to strengthen the sea defences in the coastal town of Minehead. To do this, sizeable boulders were transported from the quarries at Whatley or Merehead. In a novel operation that kept hundreds of lorries off the winding country roads, the stones were transported by rail via the West Somerset Railway, traversing the line after the last steam service of the day. Take a loaded train from Westbury Yard as far as Taunton with celebrity 37025 in charge. Year: 1998
At the start of the scenario go to the no. 2 cab and set the brake timing switch to Vacuum Goods, then return to no.1 cab and set the master switch to ‘Engine Only’ and the brake handle to 40% in order to create a vacuum. Then set up the rest of the cab.
When ready you have permission to draw up to the departure ground signal ahead to await the road. All points should be set correctly but please check before moving.
Maximum speed is 35mph. You begin in NRN area 072 and will need to change to area 098 at Cogload Junction. You are booked to be looped at Frome for a passenger service.
This train is formed of vacuum-braked wagons and therefore is normally class 37 hauled, though it is usually one of the refurbished members of the class. Today however, standard 37025 has been provided so remember to go steady on the power.

Really well made scenario will some interesting AI! Thanks for making.
I think my JT files got messed up when I attempted the dreaded updates over Christmas. The scenario appears in game but I’m getting an error message regarding 0V16 saying it isn’t connected to it’s destination. Frome Up. I’ve gone into route editor and there is a short section of track over the points that isn’t bi-directional. 🙁 Don’t you just love updates?
Sorting it now so could be on my way soon..
Hi Graham,
Sorry to hear you are having an issue. I had to change the directionality of the track in the scenario for 0V16 to work, but it did work OK for me. Please let me know how you get on and if still an issue I can change 0V16 to be a static – it doesn’t do much and isn’t important for the scenario. Just wondering, do you have any kind of track ‘patches’ installed, as that could affect the amendments I have made within the scenario?
Cheers,
Matt
Stop – don’t panic !
There is a problem with my route so I’m re-installing it 🙁
Knew something was weird as all your content is well made tried and tested..
Probably be fine.

Hmm..
I think something is wrong with the scenario file?
I’ve installed the scenario into the SW Expressway folder and it’s there, the contents look ok. But.
I always run new scenarios through TS Tools to check I have everything.
For South Western Expressways There is a new blank line at the top of the Scenario Name/Scenario folder box.
So I fire up the game and go into Editor mode.
Again in Build/Scenario Tab/Standard there is a new blank entry.. ?
And I can’t see the scenario in game>
Very strange
Hope you can sort it – I remember these trains !
KInd Regards,
