Thought it was time to give TS Rolling Stock’s excellent Freeware JGA wagons some love.

This is the first instalment of a three-parter.

The Peak Forest to Bletchley aggregates flow has been a long-established operation, and transitioned from small short-wheelbased vac braked wagons to the air braked JGA wagons in the late 80s, using JGA wagons built by Standard Wagon of Heywood.

The flow has also flip-flopped between the WCML and MML over the years, presently the loaded hoppers route overnight via the WCML with the empties returning during the day via the Bedford-Bletchley line and the MML, but this takes us back to the “classic” path leaving Peak Forest mid-morning and arriving at Bletchley mid-afternoon, routing via the WCML.

Traction is two refurbished Class 37s from the Buxton Aggregates pool and there’s over 1600 tonnes on the drawbar.

The line climbs pretty ferociously out of the Cheshire Plain as it leaves Crewe, the gradient is sustained at or around 1 in 100 for the first 7 miles. Lets see what the pair of 37’s make of it, they were renowned for making a right racket!
