In December 2023, Transpennine Express introduced a new limited service between Manchester Piccadilly and York via Wakefield Kirkgate and Castleford. Owing to popular demand, this service was scheduled to run hourly the following year. Drive the first leg of the 14:00 departure towards York; calling at all stations from Stalybridge as far as Huddersfield where your route knowledge ends. Due to the Transpennine Route Upgrade closing the line west of Hudderdsfield, all Transpennine Express services are diverted via Wakefield anyway today.
