*FICTIONAL* 1W11 1000 London Kings Cross – Aberdeen
25th July 2025Step into the cab of a sleek LNER Class 800 Azuma for a short but scenic stretch of the 1W11 11:00 London Kings Cross to Aberdeen service. It’s just gone 13:00, and you’re taking over the northbound express at Edinburgh Waverley for the leg to Inverkeithing.
With a couple of key stops at Edinburgh Gateway and your final destination at Inverkeithing, this service combines express running with some sharp station work. Expect light traffic ahead, but keep an eye on signals as you merge with traffic on the Fife Circle.
You’ll accelerate quickly through the tunnels of Waverley, sweep past the airport, and cross the spectacular Forth Bridge, offering stunning views out towards the Firth of Forth—just don’t get too distracted!
This run is perfect for a focused 20–25 minute session, combining high-speed operation with tight timing. Can you keep to the schedule and deliver a smooth ride for passengers heading north?

Bit of a weird scenario. Not sure if your confusing Scotrail 7 cities services to Aberdeen but LNER don’t serve and have never served Edinburgh Gateway, infact during the day its served by most services other than Aberdeen services. LNER stopping pattern is Haymarket, Inverkeithing & Kirkcaldy.
Hello Bryan, sorry for the confusion. This is meant to be a fictional scenario which I incorrectly labelled, and neither LNER nor ScotRail’s Inter7City trains stop at Edinburgh Gateway. I was trying to create a scenario using an upgraded version of an OHLE update, and make use of stopping and accelerating under new wires by utilising Edinburgh Gateway station. All the best, Hamish.
