1B16 2026 Aberdeen to London Euston
19th June 2025The current hiccup on the Caledonian Sleeper is a distinct lack of 73/9s to work the highlander portions north of Edinburgh. The solution, guaranteed to give you a sleepless night, comes in the form of 37403 and complimentary ear defenders. You start at Ladybank and will deliver the ex-Aberdeen coaches to the Waverley shunter.

V1.1 (17/07/25) – Removal of rolling start feature and consist moved to Ladybank platform. Removal of ‘Go Via’ waypoint for 1B98. Aims to address reported issues with 1B98 not moving, causing premature end at Thornton.
Requirements
ScotRail Class 334 ‘Juniper’ (2022 version)
MaxTracks Mk5 Sleeper Coach Pack
AP Class 37 Locomotive Pack Vol. 1
AP Sky & Weather Enhancement Pack 2.0
Notes: Non-HST speed limits apply. These are mostly accurate on the HUD, however, on some occasions a (slower) freight speed limit is imposed e.g. 20mph over Forth Bridge which should be disregarded. This has been a trade off so the dispatcher can route you via Thornton U.P.L. and to restrict you to the non-HST speeds. Where a differential speed board is located, you may proceed at the higher speed so long as it doesn’t specify HST.

I played your scenario twice in the exact same conditions, and it yielded two very different result: first, I received no warning for being routed into Thornton loop, took the 40 limited switch at nearly 60mph, only to SPAD the signal after it and derail. On the second attempt, I got the signal sequence correct but ran into what Martin had, i.e. 1B98 doesn’t move, stuck at the signal after Ladybank.
Thanks for raising this again. It’s not an issue I could replicate, however, I’ve made some changes that would resolve what you’re experiencing. Should you wish to give it a 3rd go, V1.1 is now available.
get stuck at thornton up loop – signal stay red indefinitely
Hi Martin.
It should’ve stepped up at around 22:47:50 after the passage of 1B98. The only false red during testing was at Princes St Gardens which was rectified with an AP Force Aspect marker.
I’ll take a look.
I’ve re-tested and the signalling works as described above. I would just ask that you don’t draw up right to the signal when you arrive into the loop as the 6 minute wait might see your train inadvertently pass the signal due to the ‘rolling forward’ bug in TS. Otherwise, at around 22:47:50 you would be ok to TAB the signal, providing the points swing in your favour after 1B98.
the problem I have is 1B98 is stuck at green signal south of ladybank and won’t budge so scenario gets stuck
Thanks for the extra information re. 1B98. V1.1 is now available which should stop this from happening. I couldn’t replicate the issue in both the original or the update but hopefully this works.
need one off the new ap43 packs as well
Correct.
I tend not to list every underlying requirement if they’re needed for one of the actual requirements (if that makes sense) i.e. AP HST (MTU) Pack, AP Class 168/170/171 Enhancement Pack, Class 158/159 (Cummins) Enhancement Pack in the CH ScotRail Stock Pack v3.4.
