Background:

With Scotrail’s new Class 385s in service the new era of electric travel between Edinburgh and Glasgow was
underway, with Class 380s, 365s and the new 385s operating the service for a short period the workhorses
of the E-G for so many years, the Class 170s were made redundant from the E-G, with some units heading
south to Northern and the remainder operating on Aberdeen/Inverness to Edinburgh/Glasgow, until the introduction of the Inter7City HSTs, Fife Circle and Borders Railway services.

This was until the a door issue was found on the Class 385s and they were withdrawn from service for a few
days until it was rectified, this meant the old E-G stalwarts of the Class 170s were brought back into service
operating on a couple of diagrams. Unfortunately for the regular punters only single three car 170s were
available during the day instead of the seven car 385s they had come to expect! That was until peak time
when the single 170 was doubled up to make a six car for add extra capacity.

This is where you will come in, you will start the scenario at Haymarket Depot where you will run an empty
stock move to Edinburgh Waverley, where you will couple up to the single Class 170 which has just terminated
in from Glasgow Queen Street before turning around and heading back out along the E-G to Glasgow Queen
Street. Upon departure from Edinburgh you will call at Haymarket, Linlithgow, Polmont, Falkirk High and Glasgow Queen Street. As it is peak time there is a lot of services about so do keep your eyes out for signals as it wont be a clear run to Glasgow!
