With engineering works closing the WCML at Hartford Junction and Weaver Junction (between Crewe and Runcorn/Warrington), Virgin Trains have elected to make use of their Class 57 ‘Thunderbirds’ to haul the Class 390 Pendolinos over the un-electrified route via Warrington Central (note – some weekend blockade diversions were via Warrington Central and others via Chat Moss). You’re just standing outside Manchester Piccadilly awaiting a path through towards Liverpool. It’s unlikely you’ll get a clear run all the way but do your best.
